The concept and development of Sunrise Air were undertaken in close collaboration with clinicians, resulting in a mobile application that prioritizes simplicity, elegance, and user-centricity for acute care providers who are frequently on the move. The platform utilizes cutting-edge technologies that enhance the capabilities of modern mobile interfaces and was designed following the Allscripts Human-Centered Design methodology to ensure usability and relevance.

Sunrise Air integrates seamlessly with the hospital’s Sunrise EHR system. Any updates made within Sunrise are automatically reflected in the app, and vice versa, maintaining consistent and real-time patient information across platforms.

Key features of Sunrise Air include:

• Patient List — Developed with a patient-centered approach, this feature maintains clinicians’ focus on the patient by automatically keeping relevant information in context through active assignment and admission status. It streamlines workflow by eliminating the need for manual patient searches. Multiple intuitive patient list views are readily accessible, tailored to clinicians’ various needs.
• Patient Summary — With a single tap and a swipe-up gesture, clinicians can access a comprehensive view of vital signs, intake and output, laboratory and imaging results, health issues, medications, orders, and clinical notes. The interface allows drill-down into detailed data and trends, with abnormal measurements or lab results highlighted in red for quick identification.
• Note Entry — The Note Entry functionality enables clinicians to create notes effortlessly within any screen by tapping the “Create Note” icon located at the bottom. Users can draft full progress notes or capture brief reminders to complete later, facilitating flexibility during clinical workflows.
• Order Entry — Facilitating order placement from any point within the chart, this feature employs a user-friendly design with prominent headers that clearly indicate the relevant department. This aligns with human-centered principles to enhance efficiency and reduce cognitive load.
• In-app training — Sunrise Air includes i-Learn in-app tutorials that provide contextual guidance on workflows and features. Developed through clinician input, this just-in-time training supports user acceptance and accelerates adoption from first use, addressing common questions and optimizing user confidence.
